These five fellows selected by the Haitian Government, will be fully supported by the Rwandan government, and will join the National University of Rwanda (UNR) to pursue studies of first cycle in social sciences and business administration, starting from January 10th, 2011.
This training partnership is the first of its kind between the governments of Rwanda and Haiti, and made follows talks between President Kagame and his counterpart René Préval in September 2010. The Rwandan Foreign Ministry said that these scholarship "are part of South-South development [...] this scholarship program is a joint initiative of the Governments of Rwanda and Haiti, and Haiti-Rwanda Bilateral Commission [established in 2010], and is part of a number of other programs between the two countries"
"Rwanda has been an extraordinary friend in Haiti at the time of the tragedy, and we are grateful for this generous offer of support " informed Didi Bertrand Farmer, coordinator of the Haiti-Rwanda Commission "Rwanda has a unique understanding of the role of youth in the reconstruction process", he added.
