Haiti - Politic : Hillary Clinton had lunch with Michel Martelly

Sign of the importance of relationship with the United States, the new President of Haiti, Michel Martelly left his country on Tuesday for a three-day visit to Washington DC, before the proclamation of the final results which credits it with 67.57% of the votes [preliminary results of the second round, uncontested].

The Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, chief of U.S. diplomacy, has received the new President of Haiti, Michel Martelly, for a lunch at the State Department. She congratulated him formally, on behalf of the Obama administration. "We're behind him, we're excited" she added "The people of Haiti has a long road ahead of it, but the United States will be with you throughout the road" promised Hillary Clinton on Wednesday to the new President of Haiti.

Haiti - Politic : There is no alliance between Guy Philippe and Michel Martelly

Guy Philippe, leader of the Front for National Reconstruction (FRN) and ex-police commissioner and Chief of the anti-Aristide rebellion in 2004, has affirmed this weekend on a radio of the capital, that although he supported the candidacy of Michel Martelly he had not concluded any alliance with the elected President.

He specifies that if the FRN has supported the candidacy of Michel Martelly, it's mainly due to his commitments to break with the old political system and his promise of free education in Haiti. While calling the next President to keep his promises, he warns Martelly, against the actions of the international community and some local Mafia sectors, which have the habit to "hijack " the Haitian Heads of State.

Haiti - Environment : Replace the charcoal by methane..

In a country where the Haitian population using almost exclusively the charcoal for cooking, replace this mode of combustion by methane, where massive deforestation due to the use of traditional combustible, reached 98% of the territory is a real challenge.

The idea is not new and has already proven in China and Central America but is just beginning to be developed in Haiti : it is to produce methane gas for cooking, by recycling human excrement. Called "Biodigester", this invention requires little infrastructure : toilets, dry or not, linked to a sealed, brick-lined well connected to a basin. Deprived of air, the bacteria thriving in human excrement eat 85 percent of the refuse while producing methane gas, explained Martin Wartchow who works for the Brazilian NGO Viva Rio "The remaining 15 percent of organic waste is thrown out with the excess water in a green area where they biodegrade [...] Not a single chemical product is used and at the end of the line, the water we collect is completely clean [...] we even raise fish here" specifies the hydrologist.

"The United Nations have funded many studies to find solutions to replace wood coals. But all they had to do was to go to Nicaragua or China" commented with irony Martin Wartchow recalling that "some 70,000 biodigesters have already been built in Central America... and 1,000 times more in China !"

In Haiti, only 70 biodigesters were built by Viva Rio and many projects are underway. But once built, all is not won, as shows the example of camp Santos 17 a suburb of Port-au-Prince where biodigesters were installed in February alongside the new transitional shelters. A disaster designating a methane stove installed in his shelter admits to not fully understand the usefulness of the "thing" even as she said "I cook with charcoal ..."

To make this project a success in Haiti much more than the methane will be necessary, simultaneously it will be necessary to educate the population and to sensitize it with the respect of the environment, so that it abandons the traditional charcoal in favor of a cheap gas and inexhaustible.

Yes, Haitian people you believed in me and you have showered me with honor, me the bad boy (enfant terrible) by considering me worthy to represent and lead to good port what we have in common of most precious, Haiti. To all of you from the depths of my heart, thank you. To my partisans, my friends, my family my deep gratitude for having supported me, understood and respected, to those millions of young, backbone of my campaign, I repeat my immense affection and brotherly to Mrs. Mirlande Hyppolite Manigat and to those who recognized themselves in his project, I express my deepest respect, because beyond our differences and our divergences, we live the same dream, the same reasoning leads us, Haiti. Haiti more beautiful, Haiti more just, Haiti regenerated.

I will be the president of all Haitians without exclusions, together we will walk together for the flag to the Fatherland. Together we will dig with joy for a prosperous Haiti. Haitian, the big winners, remains : Haiti, the democracy and the public liberties. A Haiti to to rebuild, a democracy to strengthen. You have chosen to break with our old quarrels, our artificial divisions, the prevailing negativism. You wanted change, you voted for change, change in our political, our economic choices, in our social organization. It is the very clearly mission that you gave me. The mandate given, I want to tell you that the mission will be accomplished and the mandate respected. Politically free, I lets to the past the old demons of the Haitian politics to watch the future, with all the political forces which want privileged Haiti initially and adhere to a rule of law.

I also want that each of you, know that my presidency will be the guardian of institutions, but more importantly, I will ensure their smooth operation so that they assume their responsibilities and allow that my promises come true in terms of job creation, access to education, health and justice for all.

That those who suffer in their flesh and spirit, those that the injustice of Men or the vagaries of life have degraded and bruised, they must regain courage. The thing will change. That these millions of young and old of the ten geographical departments of which I crossed the glance without hope for better tomorrow, that they throw the eyes towards the rainbow of the promised change, of change voted, therefore, of change due.

Than those in the diaspora who desire to return home but who are afraid that they are assured that the "Kay pral bon."

To the international community, united to support the electoral process and enable the respect of Haitian people, a solemn thank you. I hope that together we will work for the happiness of Haiti, my country, your partner and friend.

Haiti - Elections : Pink Shock wave in Haiti

After the announcement by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) shortly after 6pm, of the preliminary results of the second round of presidential elections, giving winner Michel Martelly (50 years) the candidate of "Repon Peyizan" with 67.57% (716.986 votes) against his opponent Mirlande Manigat (70 years) candidate of "Rassemblement des Démocrates Nationaux Progressistes" who obtained 31.74% (336.747 votes), a wave of joy "pink", of high intensity has traversed the country peacefully.

To the Champ de Mars, in front of the Palace, on the road of Delmas, of Frères passing through Petion Ville and in the height of Thomassin as in provincial towns, the crowd spontaneously invaded the streets to celebrate the victory of their candidate without retained : in Jacmel there was a carnival atmosphere, in Les Cayes and to the Cap Haïtien crowds in "delirium" have demonstrated their joy by chanting "Martelly, President". Motorists, pedestrians and motorcyclists paraded through the streets wearing T-shirts "Tet Kale" or brandishing photos of Michel Martelly. The Police Nationale d'Haiti (PNH) had difficulty in some neighborhoods, to contain the overflow crowd especially in Petion-Ville, the fief of the candidate.

If these preliminary results, after the challenge period, are confirmed with the publication of final results on April 16 [the inversion of this result, given the gap, and whatever the challenges is unlikely], Michel Martelly will succeed to the outgoing President René Préval this May 14, 2011.

In his first statements to the press, Michel Martelly said that this is the "victory of the people and not his own". On his Twitter account, the future President said "Mesi pou konfyans lan. Mwen fiè de tout pep mwen an. Nou pral travay pou tout Ayisyen yo. Ansanm nou kapab!" (Thank you for your confidence. I am proud of all my people. We will work for all Haitians. Together we are able).
