5 senators calling for the formation of a transitional government

The opposition senators are divided over what action to take to resolve the electoral crisis. 5 Senators of the minority group, Edmonde Supplice Beauzile William Jeanty, Maxime Roumer, Melius Hypolithe Nenella Cassy and advocate the departure of head of state and launching legal action against the electoral advisers.

This view is not shared by their colleagues of the minority group Youri Latortue and Evalière Beauplan, members of the Collective for the Renewal of Haiti (Coreh) which supports the candidacy of Mirlande Manigat.

Youri Latortue admits that at present the different views on the strategy to adopt towards the electoral crisis. Latortue he believes that an evaluation process is to confirm or disprove the validity of the election on November 28. However Senator Latortue said he was ready to seek annulment of the last election if they were characterized by massive fraud. He is convinced that a victory in a disputed election would undermine the legitimacy of elected officials.

This aspect of the analysis is taken into account by the group of 5. Senator William Jeanty said that the failure of 28 November is the failure of Edmond Mulet and OAS that are heavily involved in the electoral process. In order to provide a national solution to the electoral crisis, the 5 opposition senators intend to continue meetings with various political and social actors.

During the work session scheduled for Wednesday, representatives of political parties, civil society and religious leaders will analyze the different proposals to end the crisis. The cancellation of the election as claimed by the 12 presidential candidates is the first proposal the Senate minority. Senator Jeanty said that no technical solution can be made at the polls on November 28.Other proposals are the incarceration of those responsible for the EMB and the formation of a transitional government.
