Haiti - Rome : A gift of 75.946 euros from the College of Cardinals

Father Federico Lombardi S.J, director of the press room of the Holy See announced that the College of Cardinals had made a collect during the ordinary public consistory convoked by Benedict XVI on November 19. 151.875 euros, were raised near the members of the College of Cardinals, a sum destined to the most needy in Iraq and Haiti. These two countries will each receive 75.946 euros.

Father Lombardi reports that it was Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State, that will send these funds to respective nuncios. The distribution will be made by the nuncios and bishops of the dioceses concerned. These funds are intended exclusively for the poor and sick.
Haiti is currently suffering an epidemic of cholera which aggravates the already difficult situation of the people after the earthquake last January that caused great destruction in the country.
