Hillary Clinton wants a year of peace and progress in Haiti

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, reiterated on the occasion of Independence Day in Haiti, the U.S. government's determination to strengthen the partnership and friendship between the two nations.

In a statement issued by the State Department, Mrs. Clinton believes that this partnership will achieve the vision of a better life for the Haitian and American peoples. "The American people and government stand firmly alongside the people of Haiti, and we are committed to helping your vote determines the route you want to take your nation and your government," the statement said.

Hoping that 2011 is the bearer of peace and progress for Haiti, Clinton praised the courage that shows the Haitians after the devastating earthquake of January 12. "Despite everything that Haiti has endured, Haitians have demonstrated courage, determination and passion to build a more prosperous nation," Clinton insists.

In addition, the U.S. Secretary of State reiterated the commitment of the international community in post-earthquake relief effort. "In the wake of this disaster which cost the lives of over 200 000 people, Haitians and volunteers from 140 countries worked together to save lives under the rubble and bring health care and assistance to victims."
